Role of Committee:

 

  • The District Educational Improvement Committee is a decision-making advisory group for the Superintendent and School Board in matters of district planning, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • The Superintendent is not bound to accept or act upon the recommendations from the committee. However, the Superintendent should employ the services of the committee for the purpose of gaining stakeholder feedback and advice.

Agendas and Minutes:

 

  • Agenda preparation shall include input from the Superintendent and/or central administrative staff, campus educational improvement committees (CEIC), from district educational improvement committee members (DEIC) and other sources. 
  • Minutes must be posted on the BISD website.
  • Agenda items will be reviewed by Superintendent’s Cabinet

DEIC Members

Advise the Superintendent/Board on goals, objectives, and instructional programs  Approve the district staff development plan

Composition of Membership: (Members may not serve dual roles)

Professional Staff

Non-Staff

Minimum of 2/3 teachers (a classroom teacher from each campus including at least one Special Education teacher)

2 parents of students currently attending BISD campuses (1 elementary and 1 secondary school representative)

6 non-teaching campus based professional employees (2 Principals, 2 Assistant Principal, 1 Counselor, 1 Nurse)

2 community members (must reside in the district)

 

2 business representatives (need not reside in the district nor operate businesses in the district)

 
Procedures for Professional Staff Elections:
  • Elections shall be conducted within the first two weeks of the start of school each year.
  • Elections shall be conducted in a process determined by the Principal.
  • Classroom teachers are to be nominated and elected by all professional staff assigned to the building.
  • Other campus based non-teaching professionals shall be nominated and elected by all professional staff assigned to the building.  

Procedures for Parents, Community and Business Representatives Election

 

  • The Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Administration shall solicit nominations from parent, community, and business representatives.  Prior approval from the individual, with understanding of the time required and the role they are to play is the responsibility of the campus administration.
  • New members will be notified immediately after the selection process

 

 

 

 

General:

 

  • Representatives shall serve staggered two-year terms and shall be limited to two consecutive terms on the committee.
  • All meetings shall be held outside of the school day.
  • The committee shall serve in an advisory role except that the committee shall approve the District’s staff development plan.
